Everybody was talking about the moon, a man walked upon it but I hardly noticed it.

- Patti Smith

The art of of dialogue rests on not fixating on our preconceived ideas of one another. Dialogue is something active, that demands spontaneous reciprocity. In this project my friend Naomi and I are creating a space for a dialogue of expression rather than words. Naomi lives in Christchurch, New Zealand – sometimes the both of us live in the same country, sometimes we are miles apart. We explore the notion of dialogue through image, drawing from words of the artist Patti Smith as inspiration for the theme of this conversation where we respond to each other‘s reaction through the medium of photography – leaving room to create in a moment, relying on intuition.

Martin Buber compared life to a board game where there are no agreed clear rules to the game. Every day I meet another person with another set of rules. You can‘t assume your set of rules are everybody elses, most likely you get confronted with the fact that everybody elses rules are terrifyingly different than what you expected. We think communication is as „easy“ as words. But how do we communicate to each other? How do we perceive on another? What kind of dialogue is able to close the gap of the thousand and one ways to live?
